Validus
Validus is one of the most well established and politically stable regions within the galaxy. They claim to serve as the center of excellence for commerce, culture and governance for the Galaxy.
Government and Politics
Validus is governed by the Validus Republic. The Validus Republic acts as the controlling state, or suzerain1, for the region of Validus. Individual states are referred to as protectorates and wholly referred to as the Unified Protectorates. In combination with its protectorates, the Validus Republic is the biggest and most powerful government entity in the galaxy. While they were once the sole galactic superpower, their influence and power has slowly been diminishing over time. A single lost war could knock the Validus Republic off the top spot in galactic real-estate, influence, and power.
Treaty of Regolith
The Treaty of Regolith put an end to the War of (Name TBD), and created what is now known as the Validus Republic. Under the treaty, each major party in the war was granted a piece of Validus, with the agreement of instating a republic to watch over each individual region, which are referred to as protectorates. Each protectorate had to also agree to give up individual military forces and create a unified military force, know as the Validus Enforcement Corps or VEC, for all of Validus, which is controlled by the Validus Republic. In return, each protectorate can have their own government and rule the way they choose, so as long as they provide delegates to speak and vote on behalf of their protectorate in the Validus Senate and pay certain taxes, which are negotiated by each protectorate. While protectorates can not have a military, each protectorate may have a volunteer militia, which is governed both by a protectorate and the VR, and peace officers to enforce the protectorates laws, governed by a protectorate.
Protectorates
The Validus is broken up into protectorates, similar to states. Protectorates all are allowed to have their own form of government. Most are some forms of democracies, but a few still use autocratic rule, though frowned down upon by the Validus Republic.
